Correction of lower eyelids
When it comes to the lower eyelids that give the appearance of “sad eyes”, the incision is frequently done inside the lower eyelid. If there is a need to remove fat tissue, as well as the excess skin, we perform small incision which follows natural wrinkle line, just below eyelashes, thus hiding the scar. On the other hand, if there is no excess skin, fat tissue is removed through mucous membrane (conjunctiva) on the inside of the eyelid. Fat tissue is reduced, redistributed and added where it is needed in order to achieve the desired result. The operation can be performed in an outpatient facility, which means that the patient can go home the same day. It can be done under general or local anesthesia with sedation. The operation takes about 45 minutes. Also, our experts can correct “sad eyes” with a procedure called lateral cantopexy – repositioning and strengthening the tendons in the outer corners of the eye as a support of lower eyelid. Sometimes both the eyebrows, and eyelids are lowered, so it is necessary to raise the eyebrows as well to achieve the desired look. The operation lasts about 45 minutes, is performed under local anesthesia, and recovery takes only three days.

Recovery process is very fast. It is completely normal to have bruises and swelling, but the pain is negligible and patients can return to their daily routine after only two weeks. For the first 24 hours after the operation patients should apply cold compresses to the eyelids, and the suture is usually removed in the next 6 to 7 days. Any kind of sports activities are forbidden for the first two weeks. Patients who wear contact lenses can continue wearing them after as little as two or three weeks, perhaps with an eye moisturizer at the very beginning.
